Trusted manufacturer KidCo has recently released a new child safety cabinet lock. It is called the Adhesive Mount Magnet Lock. It is the only magnetic lock on the market that installs without tools or drilling. It is meant to compete with the Tot Lok by Safety 1st which requires drilling and countersinking. KidCo is one of the best manufacturers in child safety products and produces the best Baby Gates on the market. The Adhesive Mount Magnet Lock should be a good addition to their product line.

I have a question concerning possibility of pinched fingers. In looking at cabinet locks, I have found that there has to be enough room for a tab or such to be depressed by the adult that will allow the cabinet door to opened. This presents an issue with the childs fingers being able to be on the inside of the cabinet door and should they be standing and they lose their balance, could cause their fingers to be pinched. How does this product differ in that area?

The beauty of magnetic type locks is that you do not have to open the cabinet door part ways to activate the lock. The cabinet door with lock stays fully closed and the lock opens by magnetic force only when you place the magnetic key in front of the latch.

How stong are the magnetic locks? Do they hold up under a child’s banging? Do they loose their magnetism over time? Can a cabinet be pried open?
How many pounds of pressure are the locks designed to handle?

The locks are strong and cannot be pried open. The magnetisn does not fade over time.

Please help – I cannot install these on my cabinet drawers b/c there is not enough room on the drawer for the piece with the magnet; have you come across this? Any ideas? We have them installed on the doors – and they are working great.

You have 2 options. It may be possible to mount them sideways if there is room. The other option is to remove the drawer face and cut a notch in the drawer. This will give you more vertical clearance. This is more involved, but works.

Our granddaughter lives several hours away and visits our home once or twice a month. We’re finding the cabinet and drawer babyproof latches in our kitchen and baths are inconvenient when she’s not here. Are there any latches that we can disable when we don’t need them? Maybe something with removable magnets??? Any help would be appreciated. Gramma

The magnetic Tot Lok has a disable feature that you can turn on or off. You could also use the KidCo Swivel Lock S333 which can also be positioned not to work when needed.

Are the Safety 1st drill-on and Kidco adhesive magnetic keys interchangeable?
Dec 08, 2008 @ 19:23:05
I have used the Safety 1st key with the KidCo locks before with no problem, so it should work the other way as well.
