Drop-side Cribs banned

New crib requirements passed recently by the CPSC will stop traditional drop-side cribs from being made or sold within the next six months.  The new crib requirements are among the most stringent in the world. This action follows many recalls in the past five years due to mechanical failure. There have been many injuries and deaths to small kids who have been trapped by the faulty drop-side panel.

Parents who are using drop-side cribs should check the hardware on the cribs to be certain it is working properly. They should also check to see if it has been recalled. Some manufacturers will send a hardware immobilizer to convert the drop-side to a fixed panel.  The following link lists crib manufacturers, their phone numbers, and website. Check to see if your crib is on the list. http://www.cpsc.gov/onsafety/2010/12/crib-immobilizers-who-to-call/

New central website for all recalled items

The  website www.ClickCheckandProtect.org is a new centralized location for parents to easily check for product recalls.  Before this you had to check in multiple places to get all the information. The site gives notices on such children’s products as  on toys, food, medicines, furniture, clothing, jewelry, and more.  It is very worthwhile to see if you have any recalled products in your home.
